Join our fully supported 7 day trek in Western Mongolia in the Altai Mountain Range. Hike with a Tuvan camel caravan and have a spectacular bird's eye view into Russia. Stay with an Eagle Hunter and explore the diverse cultures of the Western regions. Hike and relax on the shores of the green and forested Khoton and Khurgan Lakes.
The trek will take you to the Potanin and Alexander glaciers at the base of the icy peaks of Khuiten (4374m), Nairamdal (4082m), Snowchurch (4071m), Malchin (4050m), and Ulgii (4113m).
Malchin is the lowest of the peaks but allows for a spectacular non-technical climb. You will hike along the Potanin glacier moraine and climb up to the peak of Malchin. Its ridgeline overlaps with the borderline of Mongolia and Russia and provides a spectacular bird's eye view of the Potanin glacier, glaciated peaks and into Russia.
You will have a chance to stay with an Eagle Hunting family, and learn about the unique Mongol-Kazakh culture, as well as visiting the culturally diverse Ulgii city.
Day 1- Fly to Bayan-Ulgii in Western Mongolia, homestay.
Day 2 -Drive to Tavan Bogd National Park, White River Valley, camping or homestay.
Day 3 - Easy hike to Base Camp below Potanin Glacier (6 hours) with camel caravan support. Camping.
Day 4 - Non-technical climb to Malchin peak. Camping.
Day 5 - Easy hike on ridgeline bordering Russia. Camping.
Day 6 - Descent to White River Valley (6 hours), stay with eagle hunting family.
Day 7-Visit Khoton and khurgan lakes for hiking and relaxing
Day 8 - More hiking and try some Kayaking, driving to Bayan-Ulgii. Local Hotel.
Day 9 - Fly from Bayan-Ulgii to Ulaanbaatar
Includes: Domestic flights, English speaking mountaineering guide, all ground transfers, camel caravan support, tents and camping equipment, activities, fees and taxes, all meals and accommodation.
